The Perda Litterada area, whose name in Sardinian means “written stone,” is a site in the territory of Ortueri that preserves significant traces of the Roman presence in the countryside of the Mandrolisai.
In this locality, during the twentieth century, funerary inscriptions and archaeological materials were discovered which provide valuable information on the Latin language used at the time and on practices connected with the cult of the dead, as well as offering evidence of the agricultural and settlement organization of the area in Roman times.
The site is significant because it shows how even in inland areas – far from major centers – there existed infrastructures, cults and structured social practices; it also offers an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between the territory, natural resources (agricultural and water) and human settlement over time.
Useful information:
- The area is not equipped for continuous/regular guided tours; it is outside the town, so good orientation is necessary.
- It is forbidden to collect or move any artefacts; it is advisable to rely on experienced guides or contact the Municipality for further information.
