Nurra (a name perhaps derived from Nure, an ancient Sardinian city of Roman times situated near lake Baratz and Porto Ferro) is a historical sub-region and a large agricultural plain in north-west Sardinia, located in the quadrilateral between
Alghero, Sassari, Porto Torres and Stintino, between the Gulf of Asinara to the north-east, the Sardinian Sea to the west, the Riu Mannu to the east and the heights of Logudoro to the south-east.
It falls entirely within the Province of Sassari.
The landscape of Nurra today appears generally bare, consisting largely of extensive pastures, Mediterranean maquis and garrigue; of the vast forests that covered the area until the nineteenth century, only sparse remnants of gallery forests along the valleys now remain.
Nurra reveals important signs of the ancient Sardinian mining industry, with the villages and mines of Argentiera and Canaglia.

La Nurra (nome forse derivato da Nure, antica città della Sardegna di epoca romana situata nelle vicinanze del lago di Baratz e di porto Ferro) è una sub-regione storica nonché area agricola pianeggiante del nord-ovest della Sardegna, situata nel quadrilatero compreso fra Alghero, Sassari, Porto Torres e Stintino, tra il Golfo dell'Asinara a nord-est, il Mar di Sardegna ad ovest, dal Riu Mannu a est e dai rilievi del Logudoro a sud-est.
È interamente inclusa nella Provincia di Sassari. Il paesaggio della Nurra oggi appare, generalmente, spoglio, costituito in gran parte da estesi pascoli, da macchia mediterranea e gariga; delle grandi foreste che la ricoprivano, sino all'Ottocento, rimangono solo sparuti residui di foreste a galleria, lungo le valli. Nella Nurra sono presenti importanti testimonianze dell'antica industria mineraria sarda, i villaggi e le miniere dell'Argentiera e Canaglia.
