Roadbook
"We start from the outskirts of Villanova, in the area of Via Saffi: here you find the signs of the trail, which immediately begins to climb steeply along a narrow country path. After a short paved uphill stretch, the road turns into dirt, bordered by dry stone walls: the view opens up magnificently towards the west, overlooking the sea and the Gulf of Alghero, with the unmistakable cliffs of Capo Caccia in the background and the rolling hills of the Nurra closing the view to the north. It is not uncommon to spot, along this stretch, the majestic flight of the eagle and the griffon vulture soaring in the sky in search of thermal currents.
The long and pleasant panoramic stretch ends with a gradual descent where vegetation surrounds the path. Tall cork oaks and dense bramble bushes shade the route, extending beyond the dry stone walls: occasionally, some basaltic rocky outcrops dominate the area, overlooking pastures nestled between the woods and the stones.
You proceed for a long stretch on flat ground or a slight descent, surrounded by beautiful fenced areas that mostly host pastures and cork oak groves. Upon reaching a wide junction at Sas Multitzas, the road splits into two intersections in quick succession: you always take the left at both, including the next one at Su Paris, beginning a very steep climb that runs alongside a large pasture on the left, where a large herd of cows is often found. The climb is demanding and includes some improved sections, but allows you to gain altitude quickly and ends near a wide junction where you meet a paved road at Calvones.
Now you are close to the destination: take a slight downhill turn to the right, quickly reaching the wide open area where people usually park to visit Nuraghe Appiu. The archaeological monument is nearby and dominates the area: its visit is highly recommended, as it is unique in the Sardinian prehistoric landscape. The area is also extremely scenic and interesting from an environmental point of view.
To continue, it is advisable to return to Villanova via the road just traveled, or you can reach the SP 19 above, where at the locality Monte Cuccu, trail 303A branches off towards Monte Minerva.
