The Church of San Nicola is the main parish church of Ortueri. It was built between the 18th and 19th centuries and features architectural characteristics typical of the period: a rectangular floor plan, a gabled roof, and a simple façade divided by horizontal cornices.
Next to the church stands the majestic bell tower, about 38 meters high, making it the second tallest in Sardinia after the one in Mores. This bell tower is not just an architectural element: it is the visual symbol of the town, visible from many kilometers away, and a sign of Ortueri’s religious, cultural, and communal history.
During the patronal feast dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the bell tower plays a central symbolic role: the community gathers for the procession, the square comes to life, and the votive bread s’angule is traditionally offered.
Useful information: it can always be viewed from the outside. Interior access or guided tours take place only on certain occasions, such as during the “Autunno in Barbagia” event.
