The pathway

The trail network in Ogliastra extends for about 440 km. In the Monte Ferru area, the total length of the hiking trails is approximately 45 km, all of great scenic value, with a focus on coastal areas and having as key landmarks the summit of punta Cartucceddu, also known - on the sea side - as Capo Sferracavallo, and Monte Ferru at Cardedu. The Jerzu area, on the other hand, is characterised by the Tacchi (butes), impressive limestone crags largely covered by rich woodland vegetation, which you can explore via several hiking trails offering many opportunities to admire the landscape from above.

About this Trail

This route links to the end point of Trail C-102 (which starts at Marina di Tertenia) and goes through part of Bingionniga Forest in the territory of Jerzu. The trail begins at the Scala Alistu locality at 634 m asl, from where it descends through a beautiful holm oak wood, following some old pathways made in the past by forest users. If you start the trail from the lower end (i.e. in the opposite direction to the main one), it follows the trail that led to Bingionniga (C-102, from Marina di Tertenia) and then climb up the first tacchi of Jerzu.

Useful informations

This route is suitable in all seasons (but avoid it in hot summer days, especially during the hottest hours).

Please note: Elevation difference and hiking time vary in the two directions: if walking uphill (starting from Nuraghe Marcusu), the estimated hiking time increases by more than half an hour (about 2 hours in total) and the total elevation gain is significantly greater (about 500 m against 100 m in the main direction).

Roadbook

The trail starts in the Scala Alistu locality (634 m asl) - at the boundary between the municipalities of Tertenia and Jerzu. It starts with a descent through a splendid holm-oak wood, following some old pathways made in the past by forest users, and then continues on a forest track for about 500 m. The trail then rejoins the pathway, which in the past was also used by charcoal burners, as witnessed by the many charcoal terraces along the route, and arrives in the Is Tuvaras locality.
