The pathway
Roadbook
Starting from the Ghenn’e Rughe pass, you leave the road to Campu Oddeu on your right and the SS125 on your left. You begin to descend into a large basin where a gully immediately deepens.
You leave the gully on your right, taking a beautiful, old charcoal burner's track that slopes gently downward. It is immediately covered by a strawberry tree forest, although a few ancient holm oaks have managed to survive there.
The trail immediately starts to descend, while the beautiful carriage road is sometimes interrupted by landslides triggered further downstream by the floods of the Bacu Sa Losula during the rare times it has surface runoff.
The carriage road always stays on the left hydrographic side and makes some wide hairpin turns, finally entering a denser, more mature holm oak forest. After crossing the riverbed, you'll find a more defined road and finally a fork in the road at Sa Losula, not far from the Provincial Road. Here, take a slight uphill right turn onto a narrow path.
The path continues across the hillside and then descends gently, overshadowed by the towering cliffs of Punta 'e As Gruthas.
You'll be walking on limestone scree, occasionally navigating around huge boulders that have broken away from the mountain. Goats are a constant presence on these slopes, though they are often timid and will run away.
After crossing a few steep gullies, you'll come into view of the first houses, bypassing a landslide before reaching a dirt road lined with structures built to mitigate hydrogeological risk, protecting the town.
You gently descend toward the first houses of Urzulei, then climb again on an old country lane between beautiful dry-stone walls. This connects you to trail 501 at the Urzulei pine forest.
Following this trail, you can now head down to the village by taking a left near the beautiful church dedicated to San Giorgio.
