S'Arena - Arcu Gennargentu T-721

Follow the clearly visible path, walking diagonally up the slopes, then summiting at Arcu Artilai. This pass was an important landmark in the mountain for the shepherds who led their flocks during the seasonal transhumance between highland and lowland pastures. The pass is also the start point of Trail 721A, on the left, which leads to Bruncu Spina. The Meriagos valley lies below, to the right, as well as the entire final section of the trail, with the ridge of Punta La Marmora and Punta Su Sciusciu in clear sight, and the Arcu Gennargentu pass separating them from Punta Paulinu and Bruncu Spina, which overlooks the pass where you are standing.

Take the trail to the south-east, which has gentle uphill stretches. The trail is well marked and occasionally passes over some schist outcrops. After passing Funtana Is Bidileddus, you will reach a few stream channels, clothed in the alder trees typical of Gennargentu. A little further on you will reach the ruins of the Rifugio La Marmora, where you will also find a spring. From here, the climb becomes steeper and will soon take you to Arcu Gennargentu. Here, the trail joins Sentiero Italia, and if you continue to the right, you can reach Punta La Marmora.
