Sa Portiscra

In the Supramonte of Urzulei, in the Sa Portiscra area, at about 800 meters above sea level, is the Sardinian Deer Wildlife Oasis.

The natural aspects of the territory are well preserved: important relics of the centuries-old holm oak forest and majestic junipers, the very rare wild orchids, the peony and various other botanical endemisms. From these slopes take flight, among others, the Sardinian Goshawk and the majestic Golden Eagle. Wild boars, mouflons, martens, wild cats and foxes willingly stay in this area.

These and others are the characteristics for which the locality - which extends for about ten hectares - was chosen as the site for the reintroduction into the Supramonte of the Sardinian Deer (Cervus Elaphus Corsicanus) after its extinction here in the early years of the 20th century.

Near the oasis it is possible to visit the Nuragic village of "Or Murales" which is one of the largest and most extraordinary in Sardinia.

Furthermore, in the area there are particular sheepfolds, made of limestone and juniper, in the past used by shepherds, artifacts that still maintain their original characteristics intact.

The entire area is characterized by breathtaking views. You can see the Gorropu Gorge, the limestone chain that from Monte Oseli overlooks the Codula di Luna and the Gulf of Orosei.

To reach the Silana forest perimeter, take the State Road 125 'Orientale Sarda' from Dorgali (heading south) or from Tortolì or Baunei (heading north) until kilometer 187 at the locality Genna 'e Petta.
