Rete Normann - UPDATE May 2025
The transit of the former Funtana Coperta railway tunnel is prohibited by order of the municipality of Gonnesa.
The pedestrian transit of the former Funtana Coperta railway tunnel has been prohibited by the Municipality and the Santa Barbara Way Foundation for safety reasons.
The closure of the tunnel interrupts the route of the Mining Way and trail 513 of the Normann network, posing a potential problem for hikers who, upon reaching the tunnel, find the way blocked.
For this reason, the manager (OdV Normann) is proposing a short bypass which, following a section of the municipal dirt road above the tunnel (section highlighted in red between points A and B of the attached map), connects trails 515 and 513 - both leading to the railway line.
This section of road has low traffic.
At the moment, the signs near the tunnel entrance that direct hikers towards it have not yet been removed, and temporary yellow signs indicating the alternative route have not been put in their place.
