Sassarese (lu Sassaresu in Sassari dialect su Tatharesu - because of the importance that the city of the same name has assumed today - in Sardinian) is a sub-region of north-western Sardinia also known in the past as "Turritan territory". It includes the city of Sassari - administrative centre of the province and second most populous city in the island after Cagliari - and the municipalities of Cargeghe, Codrongianos, Florinas, Ittiri, Muros, Osilo, Ossi, Ploaghe, Porto Torres, Putifigari, Tissi, Uri, Usini.
The municipality of Sassari covers the majority of this territory, with its borders stretching from the north coast to the west (Lake Baratz, Porto Ferro).
