The pathway
Roadbook
The journey begins at Funtana Manna, a splendid cultural site on the outskirts of Meana, consisting of a beautiful Aragonese spring dating back to the sixteenth century and a more recent one from the late nineteenth century. The path winds through the streets of the historic center, then heads south: on the periphery of the town, in Via Leonardo da Vinci, the hill upon which Nuraghe Nolza stands is already visible. It appears almost like an isolated monolith, guarding the landscape and the steeply sloping vineyards that stretch out at its base.
One enters an agricultural access road with a predominantly asphalted surface, initially gently downhill and among dense woods and isolated gardens, then in a constant ascent and surrounded by vineyards. A deviation on the left still leads to gain altitude via an ancient dirt track surrounded by vines, with a splendid view over the Araxisi valleys and towards the west. With every step the panorama opens up more and more and, looming, Nuraghe Nolza constantly gets closer.
A final left turn leads onto a dirt road at the foot of the hill where the nuraghe stands. The site is always attended by competent tourist and archaeological guides, and a visit is highly recommended: the knowledge gained about this important Proto-Sardinian monument is complemented by a splendid panorama over a large part of central Sardinia, observed from a privileged position that allows one to reconstruct its intricate geography.
