The pathway

This trail, that closes a ring with the G 504 trail, gives hikers a unique experience.

Indeed, the trail leads through a forest that is initially sparse and then increasingly dense in which imposing specimens of cork oak can be observed, like majestic statues in a museum gallery. It is not only the size of the plants that catches the eye but, perhaps even more impressive, is the abundance and complexity of the ecosystem that has developed on them.

In fact, it is possible to observe proliferations of mucus, lichens, mushrooms, insect burrows and other thousands of examples of the biodiversity that a tree of this size and longevity is able to promote and preserve.

Until May 2021, on the path it was possible to observe Suelzu and Marghinesu, that was in all probability the largest of the large cork trees in the area, which unfortunately collapsed in the following months, but which however continues to offer a fertile substrate for the renewal of the forest.

Useful informations

The trail has a total length of approximately 2.5 km which can be walked in 30 minutes in both directions.

Roadbook

The G 504 D trail starts from the Funtana Orturomines locality, continues southwards slightly downhill, entering the thickest part of the forest until a slight fork which leads to the monumental cork tree of Marghinesu, now collapsed but whose majesty can still be perceived.
