From li Reni to li Conchi (F 407A)

The trail is part of the Limbara massif which straddles the territories of the municipalities of Tempio Pausania, Calangianus and Berchidda. To plan your excursion, it is best to divide this mountain area into North Limbara (which includes Tempio Pausania and Calangianus) and South Limbara (which falls mainly within the territory of Berchidda).

Specifically, trail 407A falls on the North Limbara side and starts from the Li Reni locality (from the junction in trail 407) and ends in Li Conchi, where it meets the Sentiero Italia. It is a branch of trail 407 and as such comes under the same number with the addition of the letter A. The Li Conchi locality is well-known for its numerous tafoni (natural rock cavities, known as Conchi in the Gallurese dialect) used as a shelter for flocks and probably, in ancient times, also as homes for shepherds. 

The first section of the trail includes a stream that may be difficult to wade through at certain times of year. In this case, you can turn back and walk along the forest track for a stretch where you will find a small bridge.

This trail was previously known as “route F” of North Limbara, due to an old trail naming system that has now been replaced and updated, by installing the new signpost as per national standards, with the number “F-407A” (trail 407A of the Sardinia Trail Network (RES) “F” area on the regional scale).

GETTING THERE

To get to the starting point of trail 407A, from Tempio Pausania take the SS 392 to Oschiri. After crossing the Tempio Pausania - Palau railway line and coming to the junction for the Zona Industriale (industrial area), turn left towards Calangianus. Follow the road for just over 1 km until you reach the three fountains, where many local people collect spring water, and turn right onto the local road.

Continue along it for about 4 km, leaving the first junction you come across to your right (after about 1.1 km). Then leave the second junction you come across to your right (after about 2.5 km), continuing for a further 1.5 km to the third junction (elevation about 700 m asl) where trail 405 begins in Lu Paggiolu, in a car-parking area. After travelling along trail 405 for about 600 m, you will find the junction with trail 407. Follow trail 407 until you reach the junction in the Li Reni locality.
