Medusa Castle - Genna 'e Corte

The itinerary is characterised by the famous Medusa Castle at Samugheo, on the north-western bank of the Rio Araxisi, which is easy to ford thanks to a narrowing of the riverbed. Along the route there are several centuries-old wild olive trees, one of which is thought to be over a thousand years old. 

There are several scenic vantage points along the route: near the start, over the Rio Araxisi, you can admire the characteristic meandering course of the stream with its small coves, jumps and cliffs that provide nesting grounds for important species of birds. There are also rock formations that drop down sharply to the bed of the Rio Araxisi, and small canyons. 

Along the route, and in its immediate vicinity, there are lots of sites worth visiting: apart from Medusa Castle , the dolmen and menhirs at Perda Idocca and  Corte Noa, the Giants' Tombs, the Nuraghe Genna 'e Corte and the sheepfolds with their old local enclosures in local stone.
