Former nursery at Maidopis - Crossroads S.I. trail (C-812)
The pathway
Roadbook
The route starts next to the barrier that stops cars from entering the Botanic Garden of Maidopis, and is signposted on the left. You begin to climb up a trail that soon takes you back onto a mule track. You quickly gain elevation, with the botanic garden behind you and, in front, the Perda Asub'e Pari towering over the landscape.
After a short stretch in the woods you come to the crossroads for Perda, which can be seen clearly on your left higher up. Following the branch-off, after a short way you reach a jumble of huge granite blocks piled one on top of the other. A complicated path would allow you to get around this natural monument; you then return to the junction, continuing to climb along the main path.
The trail climbs steadily, then continues in a mostly level area with strawberry trees, where a few interesting charcoal pits and sporadic Etna broom trees stand out among the vegetation. With a few bends, the trail then descends slightly to cross still at an elevation the head of some large stream channels, keeping straight in a northerly direction and crossing two small fords in quick succession. In the gaps between the vegetation you can see some rocky pinnacles, while the trail gradually circles the upper slope of a valley.
After a slight descent, you meet the crossroads with trail 812A, leaving it on the left and starting to climb back up an easy mule track. The ascent is steady and steep, until you reach Perdu Cossu where the slope eases, with some flat stretches that lead to the Sentiero Italia trail (number 800).
