The pathway
Roadbook
The journey starts from Sorgono railway station, one of the oldest on the Island, which is reached by the Trenino Verde (Little Green Train) and is even mentioned by Lawrence in his work dedicated to Sardinia. Immediately, the path enters the narrow streets of the historical center, gradually beginning to descend, leaving the last houses behind and immersing itself in the well-kept countryside, which is a distinctive characteristic of the center of Mandrolisai.
The route follows old penetration roads that faithfully trace ancient paths, once used by the people of Sorgono to reach their plots of land and the distant sanctuary of San Mauro. The surface alternates between paved sections and short stretches of dirt road, making it ideal for cycling and hiking. Occasionally, a panoramic view to the south allows one to see the entire amphitheater of rolling hills that marks the border between Sorgono and Atzara: this is where the area's most beautiful vineyards are found and the heart of that historic rural landscape recognized in the prestigious ministerial register that protects and promotes these peculiar examples of synergy between man and the environment.
We keep descending along dirt roads, heading resolutely towards the vineyards and reaching the SS388, which we carefully cross. On the opposite side, we take an agricultural access road with an asphalt surface. We are now in the area of Pardu 'e Cresia and here, near a farmhouse stay, we find the turn-off for Trail 431, which could be used to reach the center of Atzara.
There is also a small Domus de Janas necropolis nearby.
